Canal House Lisse Brooch

Sale priceSGD 22.00

A canal house, also known as a grachtenpand, is a type of housing commonly found in the Netherlands. These dwellings are generally historic, built in a narrow and tall style, with a basement and loft.

Canal houses typically have a width of no more than 30ft (9 metres), featuring large, thin windows and decorative gable tops. Narrow stairs maximize space but make the removal of furniture and goods a laborious task, thus pulleys are usually employed to transport heavier items upstairs. This particular architecture is a defining feature of the Dutch landscape.

While Canal House is found in various cities in the Netherlands, the color of this particular brooch takes inspiration from the tulip field of Keukenhof, one of the world's largest flower gardens, situated in the municipality of Lisse
